Coming to Canada from India in 2023, Abdul is grateful for the opportunity to live in a country
that allows him to raise his kids in a good environment. He settled in Regina as it is the capital
of the province and he believes this to be a helpful city. Having met his wife through a marriage
arrangement in India that was actually initiated by an ad in a newspaper, he married seven
months after meeting her and fell in love. His first child was born in 2013 and they now have
three wonderful children that complete his family. Abdul is proud of his kids and describes them
with these words; Abdul Raheem is quiet and shy, Maryam is loud and highly expressive and
Abdullah is very talkative! Even though the family is grateful to be in Canada, they are not
without their challenges. Transportation is an issue and Abdul really hopes he can get his
drivers license some day. Finances are tight since they are a one income family and Abdul
would like to find a better paying job at some point. He and his family are homesick and lonely
for their family back home but they continue to put one foot in front of the other and build on this
life in their new country.
