Joanne grew up in Standing Buffalo First Nation and moved to Regina in December 2022 to leave a domestic violence situation and build a safer life. Through community services, she was able to reconnect with her granddaughter, Wilma, who had been separated from her mother at a young age and raised by her grandmother. Joanne cherishes her time with Wilma and works to help her feel secure and loved. She supports her through challenges, including fears of losing loved ones and experiences with bullying. Joanne’s greatest hope is for Wilma to grow up in safety and happiness, free from violence. Her story reflects courage, resilience, and a grandmother’s deep love.
